Katie set a new world record · 591 days ago by Katie Fan
Yes folks you read that correctly, Katie Melua has set a brand new world record after Katie and the band sucessfully played the worlds deepest underwater concert ever!
The concert was performed for many workers at the Statoil Troll A Gas Rig currently operating out in the North Sea, the singer and her band completed the show at 303 metres under water! The owner of the platform hired the group to perfom in celebration of the 10th year of gas production on the platform and a luck tv crew for a Norwegian channel was on hand to film the whole thing.
In order to make the world record setting offical, Craig Glenday from the Guinness World Records, was on site to monitor the event and afterwards confirmed its record holding status.
Just getting ready for this concert was no joke with underwater survival training and a whole battery of medical tests to go through.

Far from being your conventional artist Katie Melua has signed on to hold a concert on the bottom of the North Sea this coming October 2nd 2006.
The concert is being paid for by the owners of the Statoil Troll A Platform, one amazing fact is the Troll platform is 472 metre’s high and is recorded as the tallest structure ever moved by human’s, a full 369 metre’s of its height however is underwater.
Geir Amland, Director of Production, was thrilled, “Statoil celebrates our 10 year anniversary in 2006 and we are thrilled that Katie Melua will be performing a concert to celebrate our anniversary. It will be certainly an occasion to remember.”
Not only will the platforms staff be in the audience but Craig Glenday from Guiness World Records will be onhand to verify that all requirements for this being a world record actually happen.
Some of the requirements are:
- Katie must perform all basic concert actions such as “vocals” and play an instrument.
- There must be an audience.
However this concert and the above requirments were already in place before the staff at Guinness even expressed an interest in the event, so their shouldn’t be any issue’s there.
All people coming to the platform for the show, including Melua and her crew, will go through numerous medical tests and emergency training before they can even take a helicopter to the platform itself.
The concert is being organized by Dinamo Story, a Norwegian production company, and will be televised on local tv channels.

Unfortunately not in the way many of us would like to, a dutch tulip breeder who just happens to be a Katie Melua fan has decided to name her latest tulip after the singing sensation.
Katie upon hearing the news flew to Holland to accept the offical certificate and of course a armful of tulips.
According to AGRASS the tulip took 15 years to develope but should be commerically available in 2 more years.
